Venturing into the world of NaNoWriMo…

Hello, blogosphere! I am going to be participating in NaNoWriMo this April. I have a lot more time on my hands than I usually do because of quarantine and online schooling, instead of regular school.

NaNoWriMo is a writing challenge that happens every April, July, and November. Participants can pledge to write short stories, poetry, a screenplay, or a novel. NaNoWriMo allows you to set a writing goal between 30 and 1,000,000 words. The goal of NaNoWriMo is to finish or make progress on a writing project while having fun and staying motivated! Last year, I participated in NaNoWriMo, and I began working on a first draft of a novel. I’m ready to continue working on my draft!

The first day of writing went well. So far, I have written 1,500 words out of my 18,000 word goal. I have a lot of writing inspiration, and I’m really excited. ❤︎

The Synopsis of my WIP ✿

Jamie Holt’s 6th-grade year has not been going the way she expected…and not in a middle-school meltdown manner. With her beloved mother’s obscure disappearance and the constant teasing of her peers, Jamie has enough on her plate. But things start to become really bizarre when she and 7th-grader Jack Prince are whisked off to a magical world: Pye Land: a land uncanny and endearing at the same time. Kamala Rivers, welcomes Jamie and Jack into her arms and gives them a mission that will change Pye Land’s future…forever. Jamie and Jack must stop the reign of the nefarious Mr. Newt, who has wreaked havoc all across Pye Land. If they don’t an evil force will soon shroud the entire universe, one planet at a time into darkness…

My Thoughts on Online Schooling ✣

Hello, blogosphere! It’s been quite a while since my last post…I apologize for the radio silence! I haven’t been focused on my blog, as I have been prioritizing different parts of my life.

I hope everyone is doing well. I know that there has been a lot of chaos in recent events, with the spread of COVID-19. Wherever you are in the world, I hope that you and your family is safe and healthy. Just remember to practice social-distancing to prevent the spread of the virus. ❤︎

About two weeks ago, the schools in my district closed. Schools are expected to resume in a month, but I’m imagining that it’s going to be a little bit more. Because of this, I’ve started online schooling. They call it “distance learning”.

  • Online schooling is much less time-consuming. One of the best things about online-schooling is that I finish work a lot earlier than I would on a typical school day. I have a lot more free time that can be dedicated to other projects.
  • You can go at your own pace. Another really nice thing about online-schooling is that you can get ahead in work or take your time to understand the content. In general, I prefer to work ahead. However, a lot of times it’s nice to rewatch/reread assignments.
  • It’s less stressful. After I complete online schoolwork, I feel much less drained and stressed than I usually would after a regular school day! It’s soooo refreshing just to close my computer and be done with the workday. Not only that, but you get to sleep in!
  • Teachers only assign the most important materials. Since the school day is so long, a portion of that time is not well spent. Online school focuses in on the most important curriculum and skips unnecessary review from previous units.
  • The workload is more reasonable. Regular school days can be very mentally demanding. During the school week, homework and other assignments fill up most of my time. With online school, it’s the perfect balance.

  • There’s no face-to-face interaction. One of the best parts about school that I often take for granted is the chance to talk to my friends. With online schooling, there are no breaks and lunch hour just to hang out. Not only that, but if I have to ask one of my teachers a question, I have to email them instead of just asking.
  • Online school is a little boring sometimes. Staying inside all day staring at a computer gets dull very quickly! Unfortunately, many parts of the world are in quarantine due to COVID-19 outbreaks, so this is our current reality.

Here’s my cover page! I doodled some palm trees and did a quote in calligraphy. I can’t wait for summer!

Next is mymonthly log. I did a huge calligrahy piece of the word “May” and think it turned out really cool! I used both my tombow dual brush pens and crayola supertips to create this blending affect. I used my zebra midliners and white gelly roll pen to finish it off and  added some black and grey shadows to make it pop!

This is my mood tracker and reading tracker! I decided to make my mood tracker simple and just drew in some plain square boxes. But formy reading tracker, I drew a big palm tree in the middle and put in a little box to show my reading goals for that month.

And lastly, here is my first weekly spread. The only day that is filled in is Sunday, which is unusual because usually everything in my bullet journal is completely filled out! On the bottom right-hand corner I have an events section and a small palm tree doodle.
